Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) are an important option for many of our
seniors. ALFs allow those citizens that need special assistance with activities
of daily living, including meal preparation, medication management and
homemaking, to chose a home-like setting in which to live out their lives.
Often, ALFs have waiting lists, as the needs far outweigh the availability.
Unlike skilled nursing facilities (SNFs, ALFs provide an atmosphere that is small and intimate. Without
the availability of ALFs, many citizens would have to relocate to other cities to be near family. Many
residents of ALFs have lived in Lake Havasu City since its founding and have no desire to move to
unfamiliar surroundings for their last years.
The ALF community provides an invaluable service, both to the residents and the citizens of
Lake Havasu City. As the needs of the aging population of Lake Havasu City change, accessibility to
ALFs will become more and more important to the long range care needs of a large part of Lake
Havasu City's citizenry
Sincerely,
Tricia Sheehly RN, C CHPN
